At DEHN, the term “transient voltage,” is ingrained in our DNA. But we understand it may spark some questions when you first hear it, such as “What is transient voltage?”, “Is my business at risk?”, and “Are my current safety measures enough protection from this threat?”

With the DEHN risk assessment, you don’t have to search for these answers alone. Throughout our process, our team will answer any questions you have about transient voltage threats, such as grounding, lightning, and surge, and provide tangible data and documentation of the existing electrical threats to your systems, facilities, and employees.

A lightning risk assessment from DEHN is the first step in enhancing your protection. Once you’re informed about how your current safety measures fall short, we can work together to create tailored solutions and protection systems to address these gaps.

DEHNconcept assessments are always compliant with NFPA 780 Annex L.

When Can You Benefit From a Risk Assessment?

At DEHN, we believe there is no wrong time to invest in the safeguarding of your facilities and systems. Risk assessments can be useful  for both pre-construction and existing infrastructure, a lthough each scenario requires slight variations in process.

We typically perform a risk assessment at the start of our partnership to paint a full picture of your operations. We’ll also use the resulting report as a guide to our initial consultations, creating a more solid foundation of knowledge about your distinct goals and needs for power quality protection.

Our Professional Risk Assessment Process

DEHN’s risk assessment provides the information necessary to create a complete protection concept tailored to your business. Our service includes the analysis of four different risk categories:

  • Risk R1: Loss of human life
  • Risk R2: Loss of service to the public
  • Risk R3: Loss of cultural heritage
  • Risk R4: Loss of economic value

Each assessment is different, with our experts combining one or more risks for a process relevant to your specific structures and systems’ characteristics and purposes. Our assessment questionnaires can be performed remotely or on-site and encompass a range of topics, including:

  • Definition of the structure/system to be considered and its properties
  • Definition of all types of loss for the structure/system to be considered and the related risks of damage: R1, R2, R3, and R4
  • Assessment of the risk of damage for each selected type of loss
  • Assessment of the protection requirement by comparing the selected risks of damage (R1, R2, and R3) for a structure with the tolerable risk RT.
  • If R4 is also selected, we’ll assess the economic efficiency of the protection by comparing the costs of a total loss with and without protection measures

At the end of our assessment process, our team will hand over all documents electronically in a PDF format or open, signed formats for a seamless knowledge transfer. These reports will serve as the basis for an efficient and state-of-the-art transient voltage protection concept engineered by DEHN.
