Medium voltage

Voltages from 1,000 V to 30,000 V are used for medium-sized transmission lines up to about 100 km. This so-called medium-voltage is transformed down from high-voltage in substations. To ensure uninterrupted supply, substations and overhead line networks must be  maintained. To prevent accidents, tested high-quality products are indispensable. DEHN is your reliable partner.

Working according to the five safety rules

According to the Federal Statistic Office, approximately 50 fatal electric accidents have been registered in Germany since 2011. To minimise this number, it is mandatory to observe the five safety rules according to EN 50110-1 when working on electrical installations:

  • Disconnect completely
  • Secure against re-connection
  • Verify that the installation is dead
  • Carry out earthing and short-circuiting
  • Provide protection against adjacent live parts

Live working

The wide use of electrical energy in all areas of life leads to higher requirements on the safety and reliability of power supply systems. Therefore, companies are trying to prevent interruption and failure of the electrical energy supply. To this end, maintenance and repair work must be performed in the electrical installations and networks. Since these installations and networks frequently cannot be disconnected for technical and organisational reasons, work must be performed under live conditions. This work may include live cleaning or refilling cable ends, but also disconnection, protection against re-connection and verifying that the installation is dead. To prevent accidents, tested high-quality products are indispensable. DEHN is your reliable partner.

Arc fault protection

Since October 2012, the German BGI/GUV-I 5188 (Thermal risks of arc faults – Guideline for the selection of personal protective equipment) is used for domestic installations, distribution grids and industrial networks. This guideline describes that persons working on or next to live parts are basically exposed to the risk of arc faults caused by short-circuits or switching operations. Workers must be protected from these effects by using certified personal protective equipment and active arc fault protection systems. DEHN is your reliable partner.
